When to visit Sotogrande as a woman travelling alone?

Sotogrande is very popular during the high seasons. Easter, July to August you will find many families and a huge number of visitors for the polo. As such, we find for a woman travelling alone, the shoulder seasons offer so much more.

During May and June Sotogrande comes alive. Everything is fresh and still lush with an abundance of beautiful flowers, a buzz and excitement starts to build and the resort has so much to offer at this time without having to navigate the large crowds and families.

September to October, the landscape is drier, crispier, yet the temperature is perfect for higher octane exploration  – still warm but with enough respite venturing further afield is very comfortable.

Whilst winter can see temperatures dip to 16-17 C/62-63 F, this season often surprises us and you can also enjoy a balmier 22-23 C/73-74F. Which makes winter in Sotogrande, Andalucia great for those last minute trips and quick revitalising getaways.

Beach Clubs

Sotogrande is home to a host of exclusive beach clubs. Each offering something a little bit special. Gigis, Trocedero, Chamboa, are some of our favourites. 

The beach club at La Reserva is the perfect place to spend time on your own. We recommend finding your own little corner, have a sun soaked massage followed by a spot of lunch at the restaurant – or just have lunch delivered to your sun bed. Open weekends from November through to mid March so that even in the cooler months you can take advantage of the sumptuous a la carte menu,  25m pool and sports lagoon.

Gourmet delights

Sotogrande’s culinary offering has something to meet every palate. 

From intimate local bistros to Michelin-starred restaurants, the destination offers a diverse array of dining experiences from fresh seafood, locally sourced ingredients – a fusion of Spanish and international flavours.

So when dining alone, we heartily recommend Don Diego for outstanding Nikkei gastronomy and the warmest hospitality.  The KE  is a perfect place for lunch – an iconic part of Sotogrande with a fantastic view. You’ll be quite at home, absorbing the ambience and atmosphere amidst other diners. 
Cancha Dos, Rio Seco, Pane & Cioccolato, Foodisiac and Freso are all excellent options for lunch offering unique and exquisite culinary delights.

Sotogrande’s international Polo held in late July until the end of August draws in huge crowds from across the world.  

Outside of the busy peak season, you can learn to play, take a horseback ride, and even hack and glamp at Polo Valley.  

Santa Maria Polo club lists matches and events.  We love nothing more than rocking up to watch a match, blending into the crowds, sitting back and relaxing with a drink – just fabulous. 

Yachting

Sotogrande’s marina is a playground for yacht enthusiasts, showcasing a stunning array of luxury vessels against the backdrop of the Mediterranean horizon. Sotogrande is a perfect place for a day charter, venturing out onto waves, enjoying the azure blue waters, spotting whales and dolphins in the water around you.

Andalusian heritage 

Within a short distance of Sotogtrande you can reach Andalucia’s most iconic sights. Gibraltar (30 mins) Marbella (45 mins) Mijas (60 mins), Ronda, Jerez, Malaga (75 mins), Sevilla – (120 mins) and Granada (140 mins) are all on Sotogrande’s doorstep and make great destinations for chic city outings, hikes and excursions.
